Welcome to Greensboro- Guilford County Crime Stoppers
The Greensboro-Guilford County Crime Stoppers program represents a unique partnership formed for a common cause; the safety, security and protection against theft and crime for the residents and citizens of Greensboro and Guilford County.
Crime Stoppers is a Community Policing program which brings together components of law enforcement, the community and the media to solve crime. Law enforcement liaisons advertise, via the media, unsolved crimes or wanted persons, promising confidentiality and anonymity for the callers. This is accomplished through a series of code numbers given the callers by the law enforcement liaison. The civilian board of directors raises funds for the reward fund and oversees the recommendation of reward amounts for the specific payoffs as well as overseeing the payoff process after arrests or indictments.
Since inception of Greensboro/Guilford Crime Stoppers on January 21, 1981, Crime Stoppers has cleared 6,994 cases and recovered over $20 million in stolen property and drugs.
This program benefits all of us by taking a criminal from the mainstream of our community and making it a safer place to live and work.
When asked about the importance of the program, Sheriff BJ Barnes stated ” Why is the Crime Stoppers program important to the people of Guilford County…..because it provides the average citizen with an avenue for reporting crime while remaining anonymous.” What better way to make a positive impact in our community.
